Morocco’s 2009-2012 growth rate at 5.1%

Morocco’s GDP will grow by 5.1% between 2009 and 2012, said the department of financial studies and forecasts (DEPF).

In its 2008 annual report, the DEPF noted that economic growth is projected to reach 5.7% in 2009, due to the continuing agricultural performance, low oil prices and stable MAD- USD exchange rate.

Morocco’s reaction to slowdown “impressive”, IIF Director says

Washington – Director of the Institute for International Finance (IIF), Charles H. Dallara, described as “impressive” the Moroccan reaction to face the global downturn which did not spare the Maghreb region.

He underlined that reforms undertaken by the Moroccan government in the fields of finance and agriculture are “encouraging”, adding that further reforms are needed to achieve a more diversified, open and competitive economy.

The first national trademark competition called “Morocco Awards” will take place in December in the northern city of Tangier.

The event mainly aims at promoting and encouraging national trademarks and is being organized, organized by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Modern Technologies, and the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property.

Bilateral relations Egypt for promoting economic cooperation with Morocco

Trade between the two countries is still below both countries’ ambitions (Ph.: Archives).

The Egyptian investment minister, Mahmoud Mohieddine, called, on Tuesday in Cairo, for strengthening economic cooperation with Morocco, reported MAP news agency.

Mohieddine “huge prospects for bilateral cooperation” mainly in such sectors as low-cost housing, industry, banking and tourism.Morocco and Egypt are both members of the Agadir Free Trade Agreement, along with Tunisia and Jordan. The Agreement, came into effect in April 2007.

The number of Russian tourists visiting Morocco is steadily increasing, according to travel agencies. – great news for investors of rental accommodations in Morocco.

The Moroccan Tourism Office (ONMT) is working to increase the number of Russian tourists visiting Morocco to 90,000 by the end of 2009.

The Moroccan government has already canceled the visa and airport taxes for Russian citizens. Tourism officials confirmed that visa cancellation will ease the procedure of organizing tours in Morocco;
especially as the Kingdom aims to attract 10 million tourists by 2010.
